I had the pleasure of covering the NC Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s 2017 Man and Woman of the Year Gala, at the Raleigh Convention Center this past weekend. The event was hosted by Gerald Owens, of WRAL.
This was my first time covering an event like this, and boy, what an experience it was, to hear about lots of remarkable people, doing remarkable work. Individual candidates for Man and Woman of the Year, built fundraising teams over the past few months, which did more than simply solicit donations. They held bake sales, silent auctions, and many other events that were able to inspire people to get involved, and inform the community about the amazing work being done in cancer research.
Saturday’s event was the culmination of their hard work, and everyone came out to the black tie event, gussied up and ready to have a good time! The event started with a silent auction, followed by dinner, and a live auction.
When it was all said and done, and the totals were calculated, the announcement came that the candidates were able to raise just over……..$1,000,000!!! While only two individuals were able to claim “victory” in the fundraising campaign, I felt a sense of camaraderie among everyone there, having contributed to such a worthy cause.
I’ve shared some of the images here, but you can see many more by visiting the Pixieset album. You’ll need to enter a valid email address to view the images. Send a message to email@example.com, if you wish to download the set, and/or order prints.
It was a bit belated, but we finally got together with Karley and Keela, for their engagement shoot…even though it came after the wedding.
All’s well that ends well, though, as the weather was perfect for an outdoor session. The Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh is a beautiful place for pictures.
We’re really excited for our friends, and wishing them all the happiness in the world!
For those of you that visit the site from time to time, to check out a blog post, you’ll notice that I don’t do a lot of writing. I don’t believe a photography site should force you to wade through a ton of storytelling, just to find what you came here for. However, I want to highlight some people for their efforts in putting together this awesome fitness session.
First, Casey Rodgers was gracious enough to give us several hours of her time – posing, changing, lifting, and creating. What a trooper, and great model to work with! This mother of 3 works full time, and plans to compete in her first competition next month, at the 2017 NPC Charlotte Cup, put together by Johnny Stewart of Stewart Fitness.
Find, and follow, Casey Rodgers on Instagram at Fox Iron Therapy (F.I.T.). Casey is currently sponsored by Gold’s Gym of Lake Norman, Priester Chiropractic, and Boom Gear.
Before we get to the highlight reel, I want to thank Guy Simpson, Crystal Simpson, and Chris Roussell of Boom Gear, for setting up the shoot and getting us access to Crossfit Unite in Downtown Concord, NC. Also, a special thanks to Zach Bedgood, who graciously stepped in and gave his time, spur of the moment, to help model Boom Gear’s line of clothing for men.
Now, without further adieu, the highlights…
We had the opportunity to do a photo session with Khris Francis, a recent UNC graduate, who played football at UNC-Chapel Hill. He, and a few other players, are currently training for Pro Day, and a chance to show NFL scouts what they don’t want to miss.
Khris is a great young man. Obviously a handsome looking guy, as you’ll see in the pictures, but he’s also very intelligent, soft-spoken, humble, and driven. We’re wishing him nothing but success as he continues pushing towards his goals on the field, and off.
We travelled to Concord, NC, to shoot a dance session with Gracie. I had heard great things about her talent, and even greater things about her sweet personality. So, it came as no surprise, that we had a great time, and produced some wonderful images. There’s not a lot more I can say. The pictures, I think, speak for themselves. We hope you enjoy this small preview.
If you would like to book a shoot, visit the Contact Us page, and send us an email. We can shoot from our location in Cary, NC, or we can come to you.
